korea is sparkle
One thing there is no shortage of in Korea are ridiculously cute cafes. Before you know it you’ll be snapping pictures of your latte and opening a cyworld account so you can revisit the memories you made there with your new coffee-phile friends.
Possible caption reads: Remember the swell times we had basking under the warmth of animal-print fleece blankets shared under hodgepodge tables in dimly-lit rooms filled with infectious laughter and smiles? ^_^ 하하~*
I think Koreans might take the cake when it comes to gas station efficiency. Upon entering you are greeted by not one, but 15 different gas station attendants who bow repeatedly and buzz around your car like worker bees in a hive. Gas nozzles magically descend from the sky and you are handed travel packs of tissues and coffee or bottled water through the window while you wait. The icing on that cake? $85 to fill the tank in your compact car…
Have you ever seen a dog-day cicada? They’re pretty cool. NOT! These things are louder than a freight train and they only come out once a year to irritate you with their shrill buzz and to remind you how ungodly hot & humid it is outside. Also the kids bring them to school in shopping bags and tell you to look inside the bag because they have a surprise. Of course you look inside expecting a colorful note or a stuffed doll, and instead (to your horror) you find this monstrosity of a bug that looks like it has just crawled up from the depths of hell, staring at you with its beady little eyes. Since you are the teacher you have to remain calm and say “Wow! Cool! I like that!” while simultaneously hoping that one of the children will accidentally sit on it.
During Piazza playtime Hippos pampered themselves (and me) in our Hair & Nail Salon. Though I thoroughly enjoyed the attention, (check out my polished nails and blue eyeshadow) it took me about 3 hours to brush out the tangled disaster the boys left in my hair.
Monica enjoys the blow-up slide with her usual poise and grace.
Hippos went on our best field trip yet to “Air Kids Land” - an indoor play arena widely known in Seoul for its high accident rate.
Violet soared through the air, Arthur got so sweaty that they had to wipe down the ride after he got off and Joey showed his true colors when he had a panic attack while on the mini Viking Ship and they had to stop it mid-ride to let him off.
A fantastic day all in all.
